Pilates Movement and Performance Screening (MPS)
                 The Ultimate Assessment Tool!

Workshop Description:

Use Pilates to its full potential

The Pilates (MPS) is a rigorous assessment system which identifies uncontrolled movement through the body with a series of specific tests. Adapted specifically for the Pilates environment, it reflects both contemporary scientific research and the Pilates tradition.

Endorsed by Suzanne Scott of the Scott Studio in Castle Cary, Somerset
"The Pilates MPS is a groundbreaking model - I cannot recommend the Movement & Performance Screening and Training courses highly enough to Pilates teachers wishing to take their movement observation and assessment skills to a new level. It represents the future for the Pilates profession and sets new standards of excellence for evaluation based practice"

With the result of these tests a Pilates teacher will be able to adapt their knowledge of Pilates principles and repertoire to retrain the faults that movement patterning identified. This will enable the teacher to deliver a programme of Pilates which is specific to each individual.

The Pilates MPS can help you:
  • direct and guide a specific selection of Pilates repertoire which will enhance your client's performance and retrain the faults the tests have identified
  • provide a simple but effective movement and core stability assessment system
  • identify weak links related to potential performance deficits
  • highlight potential injury risk
  • design tailored individual retraining program to enhance stability and performance deficiencies identified for sports people of all levels of ability

The Pilates MPS specifically addresses what's missing

'An essential tool for those teachers who would like to use a logical approach when assessing their clients'

The MPS courses are suitable for Pilates teachers and Pilates trained rehabilitation professionals who want to use Pilates in clinical practice. A good understanding of anatomy and physiology and previous Pilates experience is strongly recommended for these courses.

The MPS course takes Pilates to the next level by enabling teachers to pinpoint as never before areas of muscle weakness or recruitment problems, resulting in a more specific and effective program for the client. This is the ideal assessment tool to add to your existing class offerings.

Workshop Description:

The Shoulder Girdle has a core.

This workshop will benefit those who are ready to go beyond training the "powerhouse" of the traditional Pilates core to discovering and knowing how to effectively train the core of the shoulder girdle.

The anatomy of the shoulder girdle with its single attachment to the torso increases flexibility but also requires the muscles surrounding it to offer stability. This dynamic stability or complex balance of stability and flexibility require teaching skills to enhance awareness of both "release" and "control", a challenge that becomes easier when you discover the core of the shoulder girdle and how to cue it. In this advanced teaching module we will:

      -   Review the Anatomy of the shoulder girdle, it's movement and function and           influence on posture
      -   The Myofascial lines that make up the "core" of the shoulder girdle with           reference to Tom Myers Anatomy Trains and the deep arm lines
      -   How to organise the shoulder girdle to improve it's movement quality and           efficiency
      -   The importance of Myofascial release and the use of simple techniques to           release tension
      -   Analysing case studies, including common injuries to the shoulder girdle
      -   How to modify exercises and choose an exercise prescription from the Pilates           repertoire on both the mat and equipment
